Whenever we begin a new year; the tendency is to look back at the old and see what we‘ve accomplished.  However, we must also look ahead and see what we want to accomplish.  This is done by setting goals we wish to attain.

Why set goals?  The best reason is that they provide a sense of order, a framework on which we can build and grow.  The broader concept of goals helps us to establish priorities for our personal and professional lives.

Last year was another down year for our Moose Legions.  Was it because we didn’t recruit enough members or was it due to the fact we forgot about those we already had.  Wasn’t it our goal last year to “Build Our Foundation?”  Our goal for this year should be to build our foundation while in turn we work to “Raise the Roof”.

Are our Moose Legion activity committees functioning as they should or should we set a goal to work to build and enhance those committees?  We call ourselves the Degree of fun and service, but are we working to have fun while providing service to our respective Lodges?

One goal we should all strive to attain is to increase membership in our Lodges and Moose Legions.  We currently are at the lowest level of Moose Legionnaires that I can recall.  What happened to those we had on the rolls and why are we not recruiting even more new members?  Did we do something wrong or is it someone else’s responsibility to sign new and retain former members?

When we look at the numbers of Moose Legionnaires on the expired and dropped lists this should give us an idea of where to start.  Our goal at each of our monthly Moose Legion activity meetings should be to contact those former members and work for their reactivation.  Then and only then will we recover those we have lost.

Has your respective Moose Legion jurisdiction set goals and put in place a program to show an increase this year?  Let’s not wait on someone else to build our Moose Legions as “a burden heavy to one is borne lightly by many”.  We have a little under four months left to show an increase.

Won’t you help to attain that goal by sponsoring at least one / one more Moose Legionnaire this year?  That is a goal we can set and attain if we all work together.  What goals have you set for the new year?  I hope it is to build our Moose Legion membership.
