Striving for 100%

It is mid-afternoon on July 4th 2017.  The Moose International Convention in Tampa is over.  There are lots of questions from members after this year's get together.  I am going to try to fill you in on what we know at this point.  At least for those that did not go!

On Saturday, July 1, 2017, the first vote for the Smoking Ban was held by a hand vote.  The vote was determined to be too close to call.  There was a paper ballot vote held on Sunday.  The result was announced on Monday at 1:00 pm.  Drum roll please... The result is that the motion failed to attain a majority of votes.  This means that the current bylaws will stay as is.  So, smoking will continue to be decided at the lodge level.  We don't have the rest of the bylaw results.  Please, stay tuned!

On Sunday, July 2, 2017, the Moose International Journalism Awards results were released.  Again, Virginia was really well represented in the awards.

  • Lodges of 201 - 400 members:  2nd Place goes to Arlington Moose #1315's John Maria

Many thanks to Bob Guest, Mike Cogburn, Jim Puckett, and Don Ridenhour for keeping us all updated on Facebook!  We hope you are all having a great 4th of July today!  Please stay tuned for more updates coming soon!  And, please stay safe tonight!

Note:  This information is unofficial until Moose International posts results on their website!

The annual Moose International Convention is an opportunity to gain knowledge, inspiration, know-how, and new ideas. For these reasons, every Lodge is required to send its Governor and Administrator, who are the Lodge's official representatives. However, any active Lodge member selected by the Lodge may serve as an alternate representative in the event the Governor or Administrator is unable to attend.

The procedure to have an alternate is as follows: when an alternate has been voted on in a general membership meeting, he shall bring with him a statement on lodge letterhead to present at the registration desk at convention. The letter shall state that John Jones, MID #________ was selected at a general membership meeting on (Date) 00/00/0000 to be the alternate for the Administrator or Governor at the Moose International Convention.

This letter is to be signed by both the Governor and Administrator, with the lodge seal applied (if available).
